John Lee Shintai Katana

Since many years the name John Lee is well known by collectors, sword-fighting artists and friends of japanese weapons. Inspired by historical swords each class of swords has its own philosophy. But they all have one thing: Quality!
* all blades are hand-made
* to guarantee highest stability all swords do have a very long tang which is fixed with 2 bamboo pins (Mekugi) – so all swords can be parted completely
* There are no synthetic materials used. The used material has to be authentic and of high quality.
* The handles and scabbards are made of wood
* All blade’s clamps (Habaki) and grommets (Seppa) are made of brass.
* Rayhide, sometimes blackened, is always laid underneath the traditional handle‘s wrapping
* All decorations (Tsuba, Fuchi, Menuki, Kashira) are made of metal.
All orginal John Lee swords do have a seal and a certificate. Furthermore each sword does have a protective covering made of fabric.
Folded Line: John Lee's swords from the folded line are known for their wonderful made damast blades. Because they are twelve times folded the 1045 carbon steel has over 8.000 layers. Every sword has a wonderful individual damast structure (Hada) and an authentic, well made Hamon line.
Shintai are material itemssind materielle Gegenstände, which are honored in holy places as relic. In japanese mythology those Shintais are the homes of the gods (Kami). A Sword is one of those typical shintais.
